Where my squid at?

Saw Watchmen friday night and really liked it. Very faithful to the book and the actor who played Rorschach did a great job. Some of the voice-over felt flat but didn't really bother me too much.

But I want my gaddamn squid ending! Here's the thing about the squid ending: Humanity gets woken up. They're tricked into believing that life exists elsewhere in the universe and is gunning for them. Their petty squabbling means nothing compared to the threat of an alien invasion so it's time to put differences aside, join together as a united planet and kick some ass!

In the new Dr. Manhattan ending humanity is bitchslapped. They believe that Dr. Manhattan (who many believe is basically a god) is now angry with them and throwing the equivalent of Zeus's lightning bolts down at humanity for upsetting him. America and the USSR stop their fighting, not because they WANT to or believe they should, but out of fear! Peace under the heel of someone's big blue foot is not peace at all.

Bring back the squid!

Who watches the squidmen?

Yeah, I'm with you on this one. The tragedy of the comic's ending was that Veidt had essentially tricked all of humanity into doing the right thing, but at a cost so inhumane that even the mere burden of realizing what he'd done was unbearable. It forced the characters (and the readers) into questioning their own moral relativity: Would you demand justice for the murders of half the population of New York, even if it meant undoing world peace?

Squid!

Hmm... That makes sense. The movie still rocks socks though, but I hear what you're sayin. Good Stuff sir Krick... good stuff.
